About this event

A UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage festival held over two weeks in Fukuoka's Hakata district. The climax is the Oiyama race on July 15 starting at 4:59 AM, when seven teams sprint through the streets carrying one-ton decorated floats. Throughout the festival, elaborately decorated kazariyama floats up to 15 meters tall are displayed around the city.
