The Tsukiokure Urabon-e at Zojoji Temple is the Obon ancestral memorial festival observed on the traditional lunar calendar timing of mid-August, one month later than the standard date. Monks perform special prayers and memorial rites to welcome and honor the returning spirits of ancestors during this most significant season in the Buddhist calendar. The ceremony is a heartfelt expression of the continuing bonds between the living and those who have passed.
